In chronic liver diseases, like liver cirrhosis, protein-energy malnutrition is common. In addition, these conditions are characterized by decreased concentration of Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA) in the body. BCAA regulates the protein synthesis & protein degradation and are principally metabolized in peripheral muscles unlike other amino acids.
